Pricing
Changes in the price of Avgas and the exchange rate between the SA Rand and the US$ have an immediate effect on our costs. For this reason, Progress Flight Academy reserves the right to change prices without notice.
Once a course enrolment has been accepted, and the course fee or initial instalment has been paid, we commit to provide the training on the following basis:
- Training fees (aircraft, simulator and flight instruction time) –
- Full course fee is paid in advance - training fees will be held at the initial level for the planned duration of the course.
- Instalment plan or casual training – training fees will be charged at the prevailing rate.
- When additional training is necessary, or if the training is not completed within the planned duration of the course, training fees will be charged at the prevailing rate.
- If training fees are reduced, the new rate will be effective immediately for all students.
- A Fuel Levy may be charged if there is a large increase in the cost of Avgas during the period of training. The amount of levy will be advised when implemented and will be charged as a separate invoice item each month.
- Accommodation fees may be adjusted from time to time. One month notice will be given.
- Books and equipment will be invoiced at the prices prevailing at the time issue.
- Disbursements (for navigation, approach and landing fees, exam fees, flight test fees and licence issue fees) are quoted at the current rate, but the actual amount paid at the time of the transaction will be debited to the student.
Payment
The balance of the course fee is payable as follows:
- Short Courses - Seven days before the course start date,
- Professional Pilot Courses and module ‘One’ courses –
- Full payment in advance; seven days before the course start date,

Foreign transactions are faster and most economical by SWIFT transfer; the transfer should be initiated sufficiently ahead of the course commencement date to ensure that it is cleared before the due date.
Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) may be used. Payments by credit card are subject to a 3.42% handling fee, except when used to pay the deposit on the course.
Management Fees
Progress Flight Academy may debit a Management fee in the event of having to follow up on an overdue instalment payment.
Test Centre Fees
The course fee includes up to four sittings in each subject for the Private Pilot Licence mock examinations; additional mock examination sittings are charged at the prevailing rate. A Test Centre fee is charged for each CAA on-line examination sitting.
Conduct
Students must be available at all reasonable times for lectures and flight training, and conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the professional status of a pilot.
Completion
Whereas every effort will be made to complete the course in the time allocated, no liability can be accepted for delays caused by circumstances outside the control of Progress Flight Academy. No guarantee can be given that the student will pass the written examinations or flight tests.
If a student requires instruction additional to the course syllabus or individual quote in order to achieve the standard of proficiency, additional training and accommodation provided will be charged at the prevailing rate. Students who do not pass the Private Pilot Licence examinations within twelve weeks of course commencement will be terminated.
Personal Accident Insurance
Students are required to have Personal Accident Insurance cover for casualty evacuation and medical expenses to the value of R500 000. Foreign students are also required by the Dept. of Home Affairs to have Medical Expense cover. We can recommend Companies that provide this cover.
Accommodation
Accommodation and meals are provided on a monthly basis in one continuous period for the duration of the course. No consideration will be given to refunds for any meals not taken or accommodation not utilised due to absence.
Cancellation or Termination
A Cancellation fee will be charged
- if the enrolment is cancelled by the student after documents to facilitate visa application have been issued, or within eight weeks of the commencement date; or
